1000 visitors!

Well, I started this project almost two years ago and it, like all events had its ups and downs. It was extremely hard to get off the ground, and in my eyes it finally did. I was reaching about 15-20 visitors a post when it was in its prime (roughly summer of 2010). The purpose of this post is to thank everyone who took time out of their day to read my opinions of the sporting world were. It was actually extremely rewarding and entertaining to post a column almost daily when it reached its apex, and although I haven't written a post in almost a year, I have taken up a new project, with a new approach a new design and new aspirations. I will begin college this fall, in a media relations program and my opportunity to fulfill my goals are ever so close.

Going through high school, I wanted to accomplish two thing after I received my diploma, Those were to play basketball at the next level and become a sports journalist. Although I am sitting 0/2 I haven't actually had a chance to swing the bat, but I have a basketball scholarship opportunity at college next year, and starting my new project will help me with my post-post-secondary aspirations.

The Game's Evolution is the new project I am beginning as of now. http://www.truthtge.blogspot.com/ is the link and I hope you will meander over and take a look into my current works. I appreciate all the support and I hope to garner a larger audience as I learn from Sport 16. Thanks!

The Magic, Celtics and the ... Cavaliers WIn?

This past weekend was a very eventful one for the conference standings in the NBA, and records in North American Professional Sports in general. The Orlando Magic , Boston Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers all won, with the most surprising being the dreadful Cavs.

The win on Friday for Byron Scott's club, in front of the Red, White, Blue... and Yellow faithful was an important one for everyone involved. Cleveland snapped their 26 game losing streak, for their first win since December 18th, 2010 with a 126-119 OT decision against the Los Angeles Clippers. The streak held the individual title for most NBA games consecutively lost, and barring a loss to LAC would have entitled the worst losing skid in ALL North American Sports, surpassing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, NFL mark of the '76-'77 season.

Blake Griffin added 32 points, and an additional 13 of LAC's 45 boards, securing his 44th double-double of 54 games. He also hit a trey early in the game, and scored a buzzer beating alley-oop in lay up form to give LAC the one point lead heading into half time. On final conflicting note, Hickson added 27 points and 14 rebounds, including a solid block on a Griffin dunk attempt during regulation, and a questionable block to save the game and force OT.

The Orlando Magic stole one from the Los Angeles Lakers Sunday 89-75, snapping the Lake Show's 4 game win streak. Dwight Howard had 31 points and 13 rebounds for the Magic (35-21) who vaulted into 4th seed, with half a game over Atlanta, who has lost 2 in a row.

The Lakers (38-17) slip into 3rd position in the ultra-competitive Western Conference, half a game behind Dallas (38-16). For the first time in recent history, the 8th seed from the west won't push for 50 wins.

Kobe Bryant had this to say , explaining his absence from the free throw line, for the first time this season.

"I was too far away from the basket tonight and just tried to facilitate a little too much.''

The Lakers have a chance to get back on track tonight against Charlotte (23-31), a game that tips off 7:00 pm as the Lake Show continue their Eastern Conference road swing.

In the most anticipated game of the weekend, two Eastern Conference powerhouses went toe to toe at the Garden in Boston. In the ensuing match Miami (39-15) lost to 1st Seed Boston (39-14) 85-82. The Heat were ahead 43-39 at the half, but came out snoozing, as Boston tore it up for 35 points in the quarter, almost doubling their tally. The Heat's 18 point 3rd quarter set up the 13 point (71-64) comeback in the 4th quarter. The Heat brought it to 1, after Lebron James missed a crucial free throw.

The win for the Celtics snaps the Heat's 8 game streak. Ray Allen was awarded the game ball from Thursday's loss to the Lakers for setting the NBA all-time record for made 3 pointers. Glen "Big Baby" Davis, had an embarassing fast break incident, missing a dunk off of the front rim, and promptly laying out Forward Chris Soft.

For an ending note, Celtics Rajon Rondo guard pestered the Heat's huddle until Lebron James physically pushed him out, and Allen intervened. For Davis' mistake the link is below. Thanks !

Sport 17, Lebron's Business Model and Griffin and Fields Climb the Ladder

David Stern, commissioner of the National Bask...Image via Wikipedia

Somewhere along the line NBA commissioner was led to believe in a Democratic nation, with business models working under democratic beliefs, he somehow was born with an iron fist of dictatorship. Fundamentally looking to restructure the economic base of the NBA, Stern along with the rest of the owners seem less interested in negotiable efforts, than a "My way or the high way" take. Unfortunately this view proves more likely to cause a lockout of the Association in the 2011-2012 season than it is to provide a challanging market on an economic level.

In case you aren't familiar with the idea of restructure, the owners want to take more of the league related funds. They want to cut the maximum contracts and shorten the years, favoring a hard salary cap. PA Executive Directer, Billy Hunter has a contraction theory, he looks to throw at the owners. Essentialy the owners of the league will come together and buy out a couple teams, indulging in the profits made by their approximate 1/15th of the respective franchise.

Heres what I think. You aren't getting people into the gates. Understandable, it is so easy to watch games from the comfort of your home, without paying astronomical prices at the door. Beer in your fridge at a $1.50 a can not $7.50, and three bags of nachos for the price of half of one... with enough cheese to finish the snack. The NBA has to flow with the market. An impending lock out would cause over a billion dollars in telvision revenue, including advertisement, time slots, and social networking attention.

Obviously there is a potential market already being absorbed, but at the enormous value, there needs to be a tad more involvement. The NBA simply needs to use all of its sources and up its value. By demanding as little as an extra 2 percent from its shoe companies (Nike, Reebok, Adidas etc) the television companies (ESPN TSN TheScore) combined are all multibillion industries.

You may say, well those companies aren't going to give that extra percentage but what choice do they have. If they don't help their Association counterpart out, the companies are going to be the ones losing lucrative amounts of money, and no one will win...

Lebron James spoke out to the media with his intent to influence, and take part in the negotiation talks this weekend as the NBA hosts its annual All-Star weekend at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles. I left a link below so you can read his musings and may or may not 'laugh out loud' without my personal jests.

On other less stressful news, as a fan anyways, the new Rookie Ladder was posted, with obvious pole position candidate Blake Griffin holding that spot. The kid just can not be stopped. Only slowed down, in which the Magic did an impressive job Tuesday night, limiting him to 10 points and 12 rebounds for his 43rd STRAIGHT double double! In his scoring attempts he found a way to cram home two massive dunks. Is it just me, or with Griffins amazing season, do you find yourself forgetting the Clippers are 13th in the west at 20-32.

More surprising than the helm of Blake is the sitting of Wall, who at 4th is a victim of great performances of DeMarcus Cousins and Landry Fields (career game, 25 points and 10 rebounds over Philly). Fields is the only top 5 rookie on a team with more than 20 wins, playing for 6th place NY with a 26-25 record. Taking a quick look the draft class of 2010 has some great depth to it, and I might be taking them over the Sophmores come this weekend.

Alright, so thats basically all right now, you can obviously tell that my writing is streaky. I'll committ time for weeks in a row and go months without trying, so all I can say is I assure you this post will get published.

You can follow me on twitter @GiantJosh23 , Ill tweet when a new post is up, and or brewing. Ill take suggestions for topics or on my writing overall, and my email is in my profile badge to the left.

On a final note, I actually am 17 years old now, but I don't know if I am going to change the name of the blog to sport 17, I could use some help on that. Thanks guys!

Double Double for Number Two, Wizards Can't Climb Wall.

It was an energetic atmosphere at the Staples Centre last night, as the Los Angelas Lakers edged the Washington Wizards 115-108, in what wasn't a very competitive game, until the third quarter, in which Phil Jackson's squad was hustled, out rebounded and outscored, 28-18 and narrowed the defecit to just 3.

Rookie point guard John Wall took charge during the game, sparking the 11-4 run, finishing with 22 points and 14 assists in a valiant effort. Pau Gasol led the Lakers onset, two assists short of a triple double, with 21 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists. Bryant added 32 for the home squad on 12-23 shooting, and Gilbert Arenas chipped in 23 points, while turning the ball over 7 times...

Rebounding was the difference in this contest, as the Wizards outgunned the Lakers 50%-44% off the floor, but were outhustled and lost the count 45-34 on the glass, especially 22-9 offensively.

The secdon consecutive win puts Los Angeles 4th in the West (15-6), 2.5 games behind the streaking Spurs; yet drops Washington, albeit in a rebuilding stage, 14th in the East (6-14).

Washington looks to rebound tonight against Sacremento (4-15) tip-off slated at 10 pm. The Lakers are in an intracity battle as they play host to the Clippers, timed to go at 10:30 Eastern.

Key note, Washington Forward Trevor Brook shot 7-9 from the field, in over 20 minutes of playing time.
